Oxford Station – eastern side

Enabling infrastructure

£TBC

Not yet funded

The project

A new track and platform, main station building, bus interchange and walking and cycling provision, including an enhanced public realm and new pedestrian and cycle bridge over Botley Road.

The opportunity

Potential for more trains, more often to more places, including up to four trains an hour direct to/from Cambridge via East West Rail.

Progress

Local partners have already invested over £1 million in masterplan and feasibility studies for the station and its connectivity into the West End. A new masterplan team began in 2023 to develop these proposals further, both in relation to rail infrastructure, to the wider transport interchange, and to unlock development towards funding the scheme.

The masterplan complements a £1.5m business case submitted by Network Rail under the Oxfordshire Connect rail programme, to specifically develop the rail capacity requirements. The masterplan and business case will establish how best to address conflicts of mobility modes, including the potential to reduce the size of the station car park at Becket Street to unlock enabling development and reduce congestion.
