The project

A new track, platform, ticket hall and wider bridge over Botley Road.

The opportunity

Allowing an additional three passenger trains each hour and twelve more long-distance freight trains each day connecting the UK regions. The additional capacity assists East West Rail in introducing trains to/from Milton Keynes in 2024 and the re-opening of the Cowley Branch Line to passengers.

Progress

Network Rail has secured the £161m from the DfT for this element, complemented by £10m of local funding. Work at the station has begun to create new platform and entrance to enter service in 2024 alongside improvements on Botley Road to aid cycling, walking and buses.
